Postponement of the Virtus Skiing World Championships to March 2023

The Virtus World Skiing Championships for people with mental disabilities planned for March 2022 in the Olympiaregion Seefeld will be postponed by exactly one year and will take place from 11 to 17 March 2023 in the Olympiaregion Seefeld.

In Austria as well as in many parts of Europe, the measures to combat the pandemic and the associated regulations were adapted again at the beginning of this week. Some nations have already had to withdraw their participation in Seefeld because of this.

The local organisation team around Secretary General Paula Grameiser-Scherl did not take the decision lightly. “We want to offer the athletes fair and safe competitions as well as an unforgettable social programme for all participants. Unfortunately, this is not feasible in the current situation. Therefore, together with the International Federation for Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities, it was decided to postpone the event until next year. The previous efforts of the LOC, the support of the ÖBSV as well as all partners will in any case be conserved for next year and in the best case optimised.”

LOC head Werner Frießer, the sponsors Marlies and Benjamin Reich for the alpine competitions, as well as Mario Stecher and David Kreiner for cross-country skiing, and René Schönberger from the Competence Committee for Mentally Disabled Sports of the ÖBSV have already confirmed their commitment to hosting the Virtus Ski World Championships next year.
