When the red-white-red sports world meets once a year in Vienna’s Prater, it’s “Sports Day”.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Europe’s largest open-air sports festival, five mentally disabled athletes were honored, including four skiers who will also compete at the Virtus World Championships in March 2022.
“It was an extremely cool day,” Paula Grameiser-Scherl, Secretary General of the World Championships, summarizes the emotions, “it’s special when our athletes are the center of attention like that and are honored for their achievements in front of a big audience!”
The four alpine skiers, including three-time world champion and multiple Austrian champion Eva Maria Dünser and medalist Markus Grameiser, were honored for their performance at the 2019 World Championships in Grenoble. Among other things, they won team gold there and medals in all five events.
Furthermore, all athletes were immortalized on the Wall of Fame.
